EMF is a small Virginia company founded in 2012 and created to deliver better value-added to its staff members, industry customers, and government clients.
EMF provides a win-win-win business construct. The end government client gets a more experienced resource at an equal or lower price, the industry customer (Primes) receives a more differentiated and competitive offering, and our staff members gain a more significant share of the revenue they produce, control their assignments and a better work/life balance.
Our staff members hold equity in the company, receive a more significant share of the revenue they produce, have professional independence, and can tailor their benefits and schedules to fit their specific circumstances. Since we believe each staff member's situation is different and they are in the best position to decide what is best for them, apart from a small management fee, we give them all the income they generate via their work. The managing fee provides staff members services, including government regulations-compliant contracts, program management, security, and finance. In this way, our staff doesn't work for us; we work for our team.
We deliver more experienced or scarce (Cyber, Cloud, Full-Stack developer, etc.), in-demand specialists at an equal or lower price point. These on-price specialists enable our industry customers/Primes to win, execute, differentiate their business, and increase their profit margins.
EMF delivers more experienced staff at an equal or better price. A more experienced team enables the government to address better transformation needs, cost reduction needs, emerging technology insertion, agile development adoption, lean enterprise initiatives, and cloud adoption campaigns.
Due to Organization Conflict of Interest (OCI), EMF does SETA work for some agencies and development work for others. On the SETA side, we do System Engineering and Architecture at the enterprise level, cloud engineering, Cyber engineering, test and Integration, and functional experts in SIGINT and GEOINT. We do full-stack development, UI development, IT PM, and Cyber engineering on the Development side.
Yes, all our positions require an SCI. Some need CI poly or higher. We do not engage individuals who do not have active clearances.
EMF works for our staff members in two ways. Initially, as candidates, we look for positions that meet what they seek in both job type and income. We do all the contract, security, accounting, etc., back-office jobs, enabling the staff to focus on doing their jobs. EMF does not impose additional company tasks (Annual review, proposal, company meeting, etc.) on our delivery staff.
The income number we quote to staff assumes 27.5 days off. In other words, the staff member will earn the income quoted if they take off 27.5 days (i.e., 5.5 weeks). If they work some of the 27.5 days, the staff member will make more than the quoted income. If they take more days off, the staff member will earn less. There is no pre-established allocation of the time off. The staff members can use the time off for whatever they want, sick days, holidays, etc.
No. You can buy medical from us at group rates. Most of our staff does not. They select to keep the money and use other mechanisms (Spouse, retired military, Obamacare, etc.) to get their benefits. As co-owners, 100% of the medical premiums are tax-deductible. The Kaiser Foundation annual report on medical coverage indicates that family medical coverage costs (on average) are $22,221 and $7,739 for singles. The Kaiser report suggests that U.S.A. staff contributes 17% for single premium and 28% for family premium coverage. Tax deductions we provide balance any additional out-of-pocket expenses.
EMF has three operating principles: to deliver increased income to our members, provide complete financial transparency, and improve the staff work/life balance. EMF provides increased income in two ways. We give the staff members more of the revenue they create and provide them with tax deductions to keep more of that income. EMF provides complete financial transparency by sharing all invoice and payment data related to their work with pertinent staff. This data is updated weekly and made available on the web. EMF improves staff's work/life balance by enabling staff to control their work schedule by coordinating it with customers and clients, not requiring a specific number of work hours, and not directing staff to do company-related tasks.
Each staff member can be a delivery person, a practice manager, or both. Delivery individuals focus on delivering their skill set (SE, SW, Cyber, PM, etc.) and nothing else. Practice managers share in the profits derived from the staff they recruit and manage. In this way, people can create a "practice" inside EMF akin to having their own company within the company.
Staff members are neither W2 employees nor 1099 contractors. Staff members are co-owners of the company. As co-owners, staff members get tax deductions not available to employees, and staff members can't be 1099 since most government contracts do not allow second-tier subcontractors (EMF being the first-tier subcontractor.) At the end of the year, EMF staff members received a K-1 (IRS form 1065), reflecting their income from the company. They use this K-1 (instead of W2s or 1099s) form to file their taxes.
A 1099 form reflects income paid by other businesses to a contractor, vendor, or freelancer, while a K-1 reflects income for a partner from a company they co-own.
As co-owners, EMF Staff have several tax deductions not available to employees. They include Qualified Business Income (QBI) and medical premium deductions. QBI enables EMF staff to not pay Federal Income tax on up to 20% of their EMF income. EMF Staff can deduct 100% of their medical premiums. On average, these deductions save tens of thousands of dollars in taxes.
At any given time across our contracts EMF has 30-to-40 job openings. These positions change around every two weeks. Since maintaining an updated version of these job openings is a full-time job, we prefer to spend our time finding positions for candidates instead of candidates for positions. That is an incredible value to you. We don’t fit you into a position but find a position that fits you.
